MPA launches maritime safety initiatives

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore has launched several new maritime safety initiatives in partnership with industry stakeholders at the opening of the 13th Singapore Safety@Sea Week. The announcements span near miss reporting, integrated port operations command systems and autonomous vessel trials, reflecting a broad programme to strengthen safety culture, operational capabilities and technology adoption across the maritime sector. Senior Minister of State for Law and Transport Murali Pillai highlighted three priorities at the opening: harnessing technology responsibly, preparing early for emerging risks and keeping people at the centre of safety, while underscoring the importance of cross-industry partnerships in building a strong safety culture. The National Maritime Safety at Sea Council and the Singapore Shipping Association jointly launched the Singapore Near Miss Reporting System, providing sea space users with a confidential online channel to report near miss incidents.
