Low Rhine water forces cargo shift from barges to rail

Low water levels on the Rhine are pushing more freight onto rail as inland shipping capacity comes under growing pressure. RheinCargo has added trains between Rotterdam and Duisburg to support cargo flows affected by the low water. Meanwhile, DB Cargo has made around 400 additional freight wagons available at short notice. The measures come as low Rhine water continues to disrupt European supply chains, including container, bulk and industrial cargo flows. DB Cargo mobilises 400 additional wagons DB Cargo is working directly with customers affected by restrictions on inland waterways.
